FTC Releases List of Top Consumer Complaints in 2010; Identity Theft Tops the List Again

The Federal Trade Commission today released the list of top consumer complaints received by the agency in 2010. The list showed that for the 11th year in a row, identity theft was the number one consumer complaint category. Of 1,339,265 complaints received in 2010, 250,854 – or 19 percent – were related to identity theft. Debt collection complaints were in second place, with 144,159 complaints.

FTC Settlement Bans Marketers from Debt Relief Business

Defendants Must Pay $500,000 to Settle Charges
Three companies and their owner, who allegedly falsely claimed they could help consumers quickly eliminate their credit card debts and stop calls from debt collectors, have been banned from the debt relief business under a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission.

EFA Processing Supports the Literacy Instruction for Texas

PRLog (Press Release) – Sep 21, 2010 – In the month of June, EFA joined the cause for Family Literacy with LIFT. Literacy Instruction for Texas teaches parents how to engage their children with books, and encourages families to read together at home. The LIFT program is reaching out to businesses in the community to help collect new and gently used children’s books for Family Literacy workshops. The goal is to help more than 3,500 families receive free books.
