FTC Ruling

On July 29, 2010, the Federal Trade Commission issued new rules fundamentally changing the way the consumer debt negotiation and settlement industry will operate going forward.

Many of the new rules and regulations were patterned after successful consumer protection reforms that EFA leadership has helped to champion over the last few years at the state and federal level. While many in our industry have concerns about some of the new rules, we firmly believe that moving forward is the right thing for our client companies and for the hundreds of thousands (and potentially millions) of consumers who want and need our professional help.

Therefore we’re proud to announce that EFA will make available to its client companies, both existing and new, a suite of compliant products, programs, and services according to the timeframes issued in the ruling. These products, programs, and services will comply with the letter and spirit of the new rules and regulations, because we believe that any efforts to skirt or evade the new regulatory framework are not in the best interests of the industry or the hard-working consumers we serve. EFA will of course continue to work with policymakers at the state and federal levels to ensure that we are able to continue to provide effective, affordable and innovative service to all our customers in a context of the utmost integrity.
